Hi! My name is Anna. I am a professional English teacher from Ukraine. As my CV indicates, I possess more than 10 years of progressive experience in the teaching field. My professional history includes positions such as an English teacher at school and a lecturer at university. Currently, I am working as a private English tutor, I handle face-to-face and Skype lessons, working individually and with groups, my students are 6-45 years old.
I've recently upgraded my teaching skills and completed the TESOL Course ( Arizona State University), which evidences my ability, desire and commitment to pursue further development in this field.
As long as I remember myself, I have always been wanting to be a teacher. Why do I teach? It is already my lifestyle. I am always so happy to share my knowledge with students and observe how their intelligence and skills are growing, how they change their mediocre way of thinking and broaden their views. So, it is not just passing dry information to people’s mind but something more vivid and extending far below the surface. However, I wouldn’t be honest enough saying that in the teaching process I teach but I am not taught. Every class, every student influence me greatly. They teach me to be flexible and improvisate (yes, sometimes your lesson plan must be changed in real time), they make me look for another methods, techniques and approaches, they make me explore new horizons and I have no choice but develop my teaching skills and my personality as well. My short-term teaching goal is to “deliver” necessary information to my students watching out all details and carefully choosing materials relevant to a particular course. Ultimately, my students have to be armed at all points in terms of a course. I’d prefer it to be not regurgitating but meaningful knowledge which they can apply successfully in a real life. Nevertheless, I truly believe that the main or long-term goal of any teacher is to lead students, by means of a subject, to the world of discoveries, inventions, intelligence, never ending curiosity, critical thinking, humanism and self-development. That is far more difficult task than to explain how Present Perfect works, even more, difficult than Gerund is! Those who take this path have a special magnetism which makes students become exceptional as well.
My teaching style is mainly based on the following teaching language approaches: the Affective Humanistic Approach which helps to create a favourable environment in class and Communicative Approach, the Direct Approach which aligns a purpose to become fluent in English.
To assess knowledge I prefer tests, speaking activities such as discussion, presentation, role-playing and essays. These types of assessment not only give me a clear picture of skills gained but also motivate students as they can see what skills they can add to their ‘ can do portfolio’’. It boosts a self-esteem or push students to brush up on a material.
The reason why I am looking for new opportunities: actually, there is a complex of reasons. The strongest reasons are: my aspiration to conquer new picks and my inspiration to help other people to achieve their success.
