My duties include being in the classroom to help the students practice spoken language, which includes pronunciation and fluidity. It is my job to encourage the students to speak in English and educate them in American culture, and to represent America in a positive way and uphold American standards abroad. Essentially, I am a cultural ambassador in Spanish high school classrooms.
Connect English
November 2016 to December 2016
During my time at Connect English, I was responsible for teaching multilevel ESL classes as they were intended to be taught by the main teacher. Not only did i follow a lesson plan, but I also created my own activities to use as I saw fit. Acting as the main teacher, I used a broad spectrum of skills to encourage understanding and boost student learning. I taught at all three campuses in San Diego, from beginners to advanced learners.

This program brings students from Spain to the campus of Western Washington University, and I was one of the lead English teachers. This is a conversation-based program, so my role was to facilitate discussion, higher order thinking, and organize activities to keep the students motivated. I worked closely with the TESOL program at WWU, and coordinated collaboration and mentored a select group of volunteers for service learning in the classroom.

Extended Education at Western Washington University offers many youth programs during the summer months, and I worked specifically with high schoolers from Korea, China, and Japan. As a substitute and on-call instructor, I was expected to be at every planning meeting, and be very involved in the preparation weeks leading up to the start of the programs. I also volunteered during the evenings for conversation class, where we took the students on little excursions around Bellingham, and I was there for extra support for the students.
