The
breathtaking Rocky Mountains of Montana in times of unparalleled safety and
freedom provided a great start to life’s journey on earth. With
unlimited room to explore and absorbed motivation from my parents creative
motivation to learn by experience, I’ve steadily built a repertoire of
understanding and lasting friendships in select places across this shared world.
The awe and adventure of discovering and learning within new landscapes with
diverse cultures fuels my passions, which include teaching, sharing music, dancing,
yoga, and various forms of physical exercise daily that allow for enhanced
enjoyment of the great outdoors.
The best
part of life has been sharing experiences and gained knowledge with students,
family and with kindred souls. Caring people have always surrounded me, but for
the past fourteen years, I’ve been extremely lucky to share experiences with my
soul mate Cathy and our beautiful, trilingual sons, Toky and Andry. Watching our
family grow in a world with endless opportunities has further fueled my drive
as an Educator committed to preparing optimistic and motivated young adults.
The path
I’ve forged has shaped my professional aspirations. I’m especially passionate
about designing problem-based study programs appropriate to local contexts
across scale, from local to global. Starting from the ground up, I pair
readings and discussions with practical experience and continuous reflection to
enable more grounded knowledge and deeper human connections within the cultural
landscape where one is learning.
Although
everyone learns differently, my experience shows that a combination of
methodologies allowing a variety of learning styles enables critical cultural
understanding with ethical considerations. Working alongside students and
colleagues mainly in Madagascar, Cameroon, Mali, France and the US has rewarded
me with the fulfillment of making life-changing impacts on many lives while
continuously enriching my own. Flexibility, patience and perseverance have been
key to a journey that has led me to over forty countries on six continents,
touching lives and helping to prepare the lives of both international and host
country students for over twenty-five years through educational methods that
embrace cultural perspectives and innovative experiential learning.
