My Profile

Hi!  I am Karen and I am a children's English teacher.  I have 7 years of experience working in a bilingual (Spanish-English) immersion school setting. High competence in education with a constructivist approach, positive discipline and student-centered learning. My preferred focus is on the acquisition of English as a second language through phonetic learning, with an emphasis on reading and writing.  Experienced in the reader's and writer's workshop models by Lucy Calkins, use of both Robert Marzano's and Jane Pollock's GANAG lesson planning models and Benjamin Bloom's Taxonomy. Ability to work with primary and secondary students.

I also managed Destination ImagiNation teams for 7 years and was our school's DI program coordinator for 1 year, during the 2015-16 school year.

I also demonstrate affinity for the area of English literature, visual arts, u.s. history and natural sciences.
