Parts of Speech Games provides an interesting way for students to learn about the different parts of speech and their functions. In Games 1 and 2, the procedure of the student holding up a card to indicate the part of speech means that all students are participating and also lets teachers see how the students are progressing with their ability to identify different parts of speech.

The A4 signs are positioned around the classroom on the walls for Game 3. Once students have identified the part of speech to which the targeted word belongs, students move around the classroom in order to find the appropriate part of speech word and stand beside the sign. Students usually welcome this activity and enjoy the change from sitting at their tables/ desks.

Please have a look at the full game instructions which can be seen in the preview. The instructions are also included in the resource.

The cards without the parts of speech written on them could also be used as a parts of speech sorting activity.

The games are suitable for all students who are at the stage of learning about parts of speech. Older students who have English as an additional language might also enjoy the games and benefit from learning new English vocabulary.
