I am currently looking to teach students online. I am enrolling in a TESOL course, and will have it completed by the end of 2017.
I was born and educated in New Zealand, where English is our first language. I excelled in English as a subject at school, and have a deep love for reading and grammar.
I have worked with children for many years now, and absolutely adore my work. I have a natural ability in helping children learn, and at the same time helping them enjoy their lessons.
Not only was I a music tutor for the Mathis family, but I was sought out by other families in the community to tutor their children. Often children who had lost interest in their studies, and who needed a helping hand regaining confidence in themselves. I thoroughly enjoy this work, and know I would make a difference in many children's education given the chance.
I am currently an intermediate Spanish speaker, and am happily furthering my studies daily. Therefore I also have a deep understanding of what it takes to learn a new language, and can empathize with those who are taking on such a task.
I am living in Puerto Rico close to my husbands family, and while being a beautiful island in the Caribbean, we are on E.S.T and a colony of the USA. I have US citizenship.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to provide a letter of reference for Anna Gilbert.
Anna has a natural gift with children; she also has the intelligence, dedication and sensitivity to make the children she works with shine. I met Anna in 2008. She was with a young boy I assumed was her son in light of the obvious love and respect between them. Yet the boy was not her son; she was caring for the boy and his brother on a full-time basis, and was plainly devoted to them and they to her.
Anna began working with our family shortly thereafter. At the time my daughter was two years old, and my husband and I are both attorneys with demanding jobs and unpredictable schedules. Anna was unfailingly dependable and quickly became an integral part of our family.
Anna was not a "babysitter" or "nanny"; she was and is a teacher, role model, tutor, confidante, artist, and friend. Our daughter, Ella, now ten years old, would not be the lovely and accomplished child she is today without Anna's guidance and direction.
From the outset, Anna gave deep consideration to how best to teach and nuture Ella, developing her reading and writing skills, in addition to her social and emotional development. Importantly, Ella began learning to play violin at age four and, without Anna's knowledge, patience, and natural ability to inspire, Ella would not be the outstanding child violinst she is today.
Anna functioned as a private music tutor to Ella, taking charge of Ella's daily practicing sessions and working closely with Ella's music school instructors for several years. Anna's ability to inspire Ella and develop approaches to encourage Ella to persist and practice when she did not want to is almost indescribable. Importantly, Anna did not accomplish this by force; rather, she, by instinct, accomplished this with good humor, empathy, patience, dedication, and warmth. This is the magic of Anna's natural ability with children: to turn challenging tasks into truly fun and rewarding experiences.
I have seen Anna work the same magic with many other children, of very different ages and temperaments and in connection with developing skills and expertise in a wide variety of interests, whether academic, artistic, or athletic. Anna's abilities are easily transferable to other children and other subjects, because they are instinctual and, when combined with her intellectual and artistic seriousness and devotion, she has a unique ability to bring out the very best in children and, indeed, of all of those around her.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at the telephone number above with any questions or for further information and discussion. My family owes much to Anna, as do the many other families with whom she has worked.
Best regards,
Melissa M. Mathis
