My Profile

During most of my adult life, I have been a teacher.  Two kinds of teaching have been most successful for me:  ESL (at both adult and young adult levels) and the teaching of Literature and Language Arts in secondary school (grades 6-12).  Although I have only a few years' experience teaching History, that subject is increasingly enjoyable to me.

In addition to the many different styles and materials for teaching English, my experience has given me much flexibility in dealing with colleagues and supervisors.  In my most recent overseas job in Ankara, Turkey, I also served as an Educational Coach training and advising less experienced ESL teachers for Just English Language School.  I experienced very positive feedback from the teachers and from my supervisors -- as well as from my students.  It seems that I am quite able to adapt to different cultures and to enjoy interacting with colleagues and students of a range of nationalities: Western European, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern and Eastern European.  I would be happy to provide you with letters of reference from past employers attesting to my positive result in the classroom (for example, raising TOEFL scores) and my harmonizing effect on general staff morale.  Also, as a result of positive experiences in Student Services and teaching ESL at the Community College level in California, I believe I could offer you qualities suitable to advising students, a counseling position.
