knee pain after replacement

Interventional radiology can be used to diagnose and treat a wide variety of diseases, including peripheral artery disease, uterine fibroids, enlarged prostate, liver cancers, knee pain, hemorrhoids, and varicose veins. Interventional radiologists use images to guide miniaturized equipment around the body using bleed vessels to treat a wide variety of diseases. Interventional radiology is a minimally invasive procedure that can be used to treat a variety of conditions. In some cases, interventional radiology can be used to relieve knee pain after replacement surgery. Interventional radiology can also be used to treat leg discoloration caused by varicose veins.

The procedure involves inserting a catheter into the large vein in your groin (the femoral vein) and threading it up through your vein system until it reaches the smaller veins near your ankle. A dye is injected into these small veins and X-rays are taken to confirm that the right blood vessel has been found. If all goes well, an inflated balloon will then be passed through this tube up into the main vein in your thigh (the iliac vein). The balloon will compress these larger vessels forcing blood back down toward your feet which will reduce or eliminate leg discoloration from varicose veins. After the procedure, patients will experience some bruising and swelling in their legs. Some people may need crutches during recovery because walking on their heels may be uncomfortable for several days post-procedure.

Patients with diabetes should monitor sugar levels closely as they may require more insulin to control sugar levels after treatment. Treatment time ranges from 45 minutes to one hour depending on the severity of the condition. Bleeding complications, if any, are usually controlled with pressure dressings and clotting agents such as heparin. Patients should contact their physician immediately if they notice any symptoms of bleeding. For those who have not had previous surgery, doctors typically recommend a 24-hour period before driving following the procedure. For those who have had prior hip replacement surgery, there is no specific waiting period required before driving following the procedure.
