Introduction:

My name is Justin Jacobs. I am a TEFL certified English teacher with two and a half years of experience at a language center in Morioka, Japan. After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in South Africa and completing a year of work as a marketer for a large automotive spares company in Namibia, I was able to realize my dream of teaching English abroad. When I first moved, I was challenged and forced to grow in ways I had not and could not have foreseen. This served only to reaffirm my passions and show myself that I had made the correct choice in becoming an educator.

I was fortunate enough to be able to teach a wide range of students, starting from kindergarten to senior level. I was truly able to immerse myself in local culture through the eyes of my students. I believe this made me a more relatable and better teacher. It was extremely difficult for me to leave my post in Japan after working with great colleagues and growing close to my students. However, I felt that it was paramount to continue my journey in order to grow as a human and as an educator.

Attending an international school while growing up has definitely shaped my fondness for exploring and absorbing foreign cultures. This was only further enhanced by a year spent in Edmonton, Canada at the beginning of my adolescence. The early and continued exposure to cultural diversity I had growing up is my inspiration for learning about global cultures and sharing mine with the people I meet and the students I teach. Therefore, I would like to facilitate the same personal growth for students as they learn and perfect the language so as to join the global community.

When I was 16 I taught myself graphic design. I quickly learned the sport of fencing in high school and became the Junior National Champion, the first ever Namibian to participate in the Fencing World Cup (France, 2010) and coached the largest fencing team in Namibia at all levels. After graduating university, I completed a short course in video production and continued to receive my TEFL certification after that. It is this thirst for knowledge that I would like to pass on to my students. It would be my goal as an educator to show that learning English is fun by giving the language value to the student.

I believe that my varied skill set and experience makes me a qualified and unique asset for any organization. I will add value with the classroom and business management skills I have acquired from previous positions. Furthermore, I am solution-oriented and a creative thinker. I will make a great addition to your work team due to my cultural openness, ability to get along with people from various backgrounds and ages as well as my generally energetic and optimistic attitude towards life.

I hope to make a great addition to your work team and I look forward to hearing from you.
