Introduction:

Live Learn Languages is based near Girona, Spain. We organise total immersion English courses in the United Kingdom and Ireland which is why we are in a unique position to be able to advertise in Spain for Spanish Students to undertake English courses in the UK and Ireland. There is currently a huge demand for English in Spain.

The minimum requirements to join our team of Teachers is to be TEFL, CELTA, DELTA or PGCE qualified, to live in the UK or Ireland at the time of the course, have an available spare room where students will stay, a native level of English and have a current DBS (UK) or Garda vetted (Ireland).

The majority of our courses run in the summer, although we have courses all year.

Courses last 7, 10 or 14 days, but students can choose to stay longer. A 7 day course includes 15 hours in class teaching from Monday to Friday, which can be 3 hours every morning or divided between the morning and the afternoon. These class hours are different to the rest of the time the student spends with you and it must be clear when class starts and finishes. We normally include 1 hour of blog time in the classes everyday which is where students talk about the day, look at the photos you have all taken, choose the best to upload to the blog and do a short writing to also put on the blog.

Students are then immersed into British culture, which means that the teacher introduces the student to his / her normal, everyday life. Teachers can incorporate almost anything into the course. For example, if the teachers need to go to the supermarket, you could study food vocabulary in class in the morning, talk about recipes using the grammar point "The imperative", role play different situations in the supermarket, asking for help, greetings, etc. and teach British money. Then the student could buy the ingredients for a dish from their country. In the evening, for dinner, you and the student could cook the student's dish.

Students have all their meals with you or someone in your family and they expect to spend the rest of the time in the company of the teacher and/ or family. When we say "teacher and/or family" we hope that the majority of the time the student is in the company of the teacher, but that it is not a problem for the student to spend time with someone from the teacher's family. In fact, this would be a positive experience for the student to spend time with other people. Our students choose our courses specifically because they are total immersion, but if a student asks to spend some time alone for whatever reason, then this is fine.

We include 2 cultural visits in every 1 week course. These can be anywhere of interest that you think there will be an opportunity for conversation between the teacher and the student. What is important is that students do not choose to come on our courses as tourists or as a holiday or to go sightseeing, they choose our courses to maximise their English learning. This being said, there could be more opportunities for students to use their English in walking distance from your home compared to going on long journeys to visit the most interesting tourist sites in your area by train or car.

Teachers are expected to provide all their own teaching material, however if a student wishes to go on a business course, back to work course or exam preparation course, then we will do our best to help the teacher with as much material as possible, seeing as these course are usually very specific to the student's needs. Apart from this, we find out as much as possible about each student before they start the course, which includes a level test and short composition.

For our General English course with one student we pay the teacher £550 (650€) for 7 days which includes 15 hours teaching. This includes £50 travel expenses for the journey to and from the airport for the teacher and the student/s. Teachers pay for the transport to and from 2 cultural visits in a 7 day course, which we try to keep this cost to a minimum by visiting the local sights. Apart from this, students pay their own travel costs. Students are expected to pay their own entrance fees to cultural visits and the Teacher’s entrance fee. Also teachers pay for student's food for the duration of their stay. We feel that it is important to be as transparent as possible with any costs that the teacher may have to pay and that is why we mention that teachers will also have to pay for any household costs the student may incur, like water, electricity, washing machines, etc.
