Introduction:

Teaching for me is akin to a computer with internet access-- It can be a lifechanging tool when applied correctly. However, in the wrong hands, it can also become a colossal waste of time. As a younger student I studied in over 7 different schools, including one year in Australia, and 4 college years at the top university in the Philippines where I got my degree. I've studied under some of the best and worst the system has to offer. Because of this, I know that there is a world of difference between knowing something, and being able to effectively impart that knowledge to others in such a way that they will be able to realistically apply what is taught to them.

I have been both a student and a teacher all my life. As a senior in high school, I tutored a small group of public school children in basic English and math over the course of 5 months. Since I was a senior member of the track and field team, I would teach newer recruits how to improve their running and athletic skills every afternoon. Since my senior year in college I have been employed by an online Business English school in Japan. Over the past 6 months I have been training dozens of Japanese professionals in effective use of the English language.

I believe that one skill that is used every day is infinitely better than an entire textbook memorized for a test and forgotten the next week. While all approaches to learning have their place, I am interested in emphasizing those that have the best chance of interesting the student personally, allowing them to see the value of the material being presented, and empowering them to continue their own education outside the classroom.
