As a Psychologist, I have a great understanding of children’s perception and processes of learning, depending on their developmental stage.
I believe in positive reinforcement connected with drill, working on a constructive feedback and in setting smaller and bigger goals together.
I worked as an English teacher in South Korea. Starting with being a substitute teacher for big public schools, giving private lessons for kids with difficulties to private pre-school, where I truly enjoyed working!
Our favorite class was Team Project, where we used to draw maps of secret treasures, list equipment we would need and go for adventures!
I believe that also being an Editor in English speaking guide helped me to find my way for creative, successful communication with wider publicity.
As a person familiar with Asian cultures I am aware of the difference in our background and I will do my best to find an appropriate connection between them. One of the examples can be different way of presenting time, which is so different for Mandarin and English speakers and might be very important with presenting tenses.
From a technical perspective, my corporation experience helped me to become well organized and planned and gave me the opportunity to learn all the different dialects of English.
Asian kids are great! So polite, well behaved and focused. I would love to help them to create a bright future with a lot of possibilities, which would be delivered by mastering English.
Hope you will consider my application!
Kind Regards,
Martina Chapman

Research Scholarship
December 2010
Public School in Seoul, South Korea
January 2011 to June 2011
During my Research Scholarship at the Ajou University in Suwon (next to Seoul), I decided to go for a new work experience and try out my teaching skills by getting part-time teaching jobs as a substitute teacher in the public education system. All materials were supplied and lessons already planned, so it looked like an easy job to do. Even with extra tutoring for kids, when it turned out to be much longer hours, the satisfaction gained truly compensated the long hours of work.
World's Leaders Academy
June 2011 to August 2012
After a successful experience with teaching, I decided to move forward and start working at the private pre-school. I really enjoyed teaching smaller classes (up to 10 students), a lot of movement, fun exercises and amazing equipment this private school had to offer. I would have stayed longer than a year, but had to graduate from my university at some stage.
Major responsibilities:
- welcome students; sing a "Good morning" song together
- plan a program that helps each student achieve learning objectives
- prepare appropriate lesson materials and resources
- utilize pre-school equipment (games, music, books etc..)
- recognize different student needs and adapt teaching methods
- provide with an appropriate learning environment
- "negotiate" (kids were small) classroom rules - establish and effect rules for acceptable behavior, as well disciplinary interventions
- make referrals for assistance to Korean teachers (translations) when necessary
- encourage cooperation
- provide constructive feedback to parents
World Taekwondo Federation
July 2013 to July 2013
I had this great opportunity to coach young Taekwondo players during the big European gathering. Coaching in psychological sense involved short and long term planning, evaluating resources, motivating and supplying tools to measure progress. Talking with them about their issues. Felt very happy to work with children and adolescents again.
WOPR Rescue Team
February 2013 to February 2013
The decision was made that extra coaching will be needed in the local rescue team. During summer, once in a week (Saturday) or twice in a week (weekdays, afternoon hours) we gathered to have a workshop on all psychological aspects we could find important in their work. This time I worked with adolescents and adults.
