I offer a wide range
of invaluable skills and competencies accumulated during multiple years of lecturing,
teaching, studying and travelling. This combination of experience has enhanced
my proficiency as a lecturer in numerous manners and has instilled in me an
interest to continue to teach and lecture. I will first briefly address my
employment and educational history before highlighting some personal qualities
which make me a competitive candidate.
In terms of teaching history, I have over five
years teaching experience in public and private institutions in Europe as a
certified TEFL teacher. Most recently, I have taught as a full-time and
substitute teacher in Italy, accumulating an excess of 1,500 contact hours. I
also lectured university undergraduate students on topics including
counterterrorism and European politics. Finally, I have several years of
experience educating adults on industrial safety in the United States. As a result of this experience, I excel at
adapting my curriculum and tailoring my teaching methodology to the topics
being introduced, while being cognizant of the diverse ages, needs, and capabilities
of my students. In the classroom or lecture halls, I build a strong rapport
with students and implement a student-centric teaching approach which prioritizes
practicality and robust student interaction. In combination, I can teach
standard English as a Second Language courses, English grammar, as well as academic
and business English.
In terms of my educational background, my
most important personal achievements have been earning my university degrees. I
have a BA in International Studies, an MA in Conflict Transformation, and a Ph.D. in Peace, Conflict and Development
studies. I selected these disciplines because of my interest in cross-cultural
interaction, international relations and my desire to work abroad. These
degrees were earned while I was a mature, working student—and their achievement
were possible only because of my strong work ethic and personal determination. As
a result of my degrees, I can lecture on multiple topics, including: Terrorism
and Counterterrorism; British Government and Culture; U.S. Government and
Culture; Western Culture; and Conflict Resolution, to list a few. Simultaneously,
I highly enjoy research, and plan to continue to write and publish journal
articles on these topics.
The last advantage that
I have over many other applicants is my extensive travel experience. Over the
past fifteen years, I have taught, studied alongside, and interacted with
people of various ages from diverse cultures, religious affiliations and
educational backgrounds. Consequently, I recognize the importance of remaining open-minded
and being respectful of diversity in the classroom. These are invaluable
qualities for a lecturer in an international setting. Simultaneously,
throughout my travels, I have been in persistent contact with non-native
English speakers, and these conditions have instilled in me a high degree of respect
and admiration for language learners since I recognize the challenges they
face.
By way of conclusion, I am a reliable, mature
and hardworking individual seeking an opportunity to use my knowledge and teaching
skills to enrich others. I function well under pressure, observe deadlines, and
recognize the importance of being flexible and adaptive in the classroom. I
persistently strive to improve myself as an individual and teacher. I am
confident that my proficiencies and experience make me an asset to your
students and institution.
