Hello,
My name is Roslyn Devaux-Spitzley from The USA.
I am currently enrolled in a TEFL course so that I may live and work abroad in a foreign country teaching English to other students.
While studying at the University I learned about different
cultures and many different art forms and the history of the regions and
people. Although at the time I could not travel and see all the art I learned
about due to failing health of my parents. I knew in the back of my mind that I
wanted to learn more about Asian cultures as that is where my interest was in
school. More important was learning about life styles, history, and culture of
the people of these areas.
As students migrated from foreign countries to the U.S there
was a sweeping movement to help these new comers integrate into American life.
I worked with a local church as we took classes so we were prepared to help
these students learn about us, as we learned about them and their cultures. I
worked with students in their reading and writing skills, learning how to shop
and where, going places together and just having fun together. We worked mostly
with Tibetans, and Somali students. It was a time of much learning for both of
us.
I learned that to integrate and learn more of cultures I
wanted to go abroad and help other students learn English as this was the
gateway to education for students who would not otherwise get that opportunity.
As cultures we have learned to grow together to better our international
community and to learn to love and be acceptable of all cultures and accept
their difference as that to me is what makes us unique.
I find that the world needs people to reach out and teach
others so that together our world may be happier, smarter and more accepting,
especially in education and business. We no longer have borders and to me
Doctors without borders have given so much in terms of medical care, now
education is taking on that role and we are becoming teachers without borders.
I love this concept and hope to find that right opportunity to give to the next
generation opportunities to students worldwide.
I look forward to working in the international community and
to teach students English so that they may teach the next generation and the
next generation till everyone accomplishes together what is important, language
and love.
Thank you,
Roslyn Devaux Spitzley
