Introduction:

Hello, my name is Sharleen, I am from East London which is a small town in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. I have recently completed my TEFEL course through The TEFEL Academy. I have a passion for children and love watching them grow. I am a mother of two, a daughter who is 27 and a son who is 23. Raising children has been a journey, from having to mother, teach and nurture, you learn so much as they grow into young adults. As my children grew older, I took interest in the Sunday school at our local church. Working with these children has become a passion for me, hence me taking up the opportunity of the position to oversee the Sunday school as a whole. As this passion has grown, I decided to further my growth through teaching others my home language, English.

When teaching children, I find the TPR method effective as it is fun, easy to implement and reduces the pressure and stress from the children and can be used in large and small classes. I also find the use of pictures or realia effective the visual aid assists in the memory of the lesson.

Teaching has got to be one of the most rewarding jobs out there, just the same as you watch the caterpillar grow into a beautiful butterfly.

Here is an example of my teaching method: -

This is a frog, what does a frog do?

It hops and swims.

Say it with me “FROG” Good job – show thumbs up

Now say it on your own ... – clap and say well done

Given the opportunity to serve through your educational institute, I assure you that my passion and professionalism will be my greatest contribution.
