Introduction:

Hello my name is Sharmila and I am from South Africa. I speak and teach English. I am fluent in Afrikaans .. I am a friendly, patient, approachable, passionate and motivated person with a strong desire to help and assist children/adults to empower themselves. English being a Universal Language will provide Students with tremendous opportunities to achieve and reach their full potential in vast avenues of life, being social, educational. career growth and more. My career background in the Corporate Legal Sector has enabled me to acquire strong/professional English skills. During my career I was involved in training, coaching and mentoring scores of junior staff. I have a Diploma in Modern Montessori Teaching which I used to educate my own 2 sons from the age of 2. My last position required me to communicate with adults of a different L1. Which gave me the ability to understand and explain English Agreements and other documents.

My aim is to foster quality online English Teaching where I aspire to leverage my dynamic approach in teaching and guiding students and encouraging them to learn and participate in constructive and motivating programs as a Teacher. . I  plan my lessons according to the Students learning style. I am proficient in 4 skills being Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening as well as Grammar, Pronunciation and Vocabulary.  My lessons are centered around Visual (spatial), Aural (auditory-musical), Verbal (linguistic), Physical (kinesthetic).  I  create lessons preferably using a Student Centered approach, Topic Based, and the use of TPR. I utilize various materials, props, realia, props, audio-visual aids and more to create motivating, fun lessons in order for students to excited, interested and enthusiastic about learning English

MY TEACHING  APPROACH

When we think about lesson planning, the saying, “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it”.

Students differ from each other in their preferences. When it comes to learning a new language, each student receives, processes and stores information differently. Some students may thrive using traditional papers and pencils, while others prefer collaboration and even hands-on activities. If their ideal learning styles are not recognized in the classroom, studying becomes drudgery — and students who have a hard time tend to lose their motivation.  I therefore structure lessons according to the needs and preferences of the Student.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a Teacher I aspire to create a student-centered learning environment in which the student is in the driving seat of their own learning. I focus on the specific needs of students and differentiate learning so that each student's unique skills are emphasized.
