My name is Stephanie Shorten. I am 56 years old and just returned from Seoul, South Korea, where I taught ESL for the same academy for over 10 years. After visiting my sister in 2007 (she is an ESL teacher), I fell in love with Korea and decided to go back to school to get my Bachelor of Arts degree. Then in 2009, I got a job teaching ESL at English Vine Academy in Seoul. After teaching there for 2 years, I wanted to get my Bachelor of Education degree, so I returned to Canada. I then returned to the same academy once I received my degree because I knew it was a great place to work and I loved living in Seoul. I enjoyed every minute of my teaching job because the students were enthusiastic about learning English and curious about me, as well as my culture. I also loved learning about their lives and Korean culture, especially the food. I really enjoyed living in Seoul because I was surrounded by mountains and I enjoyed learning about Korean culture and living among Koreans, who are such wonderful people. I returned home 3 months ago to take care of my elderly parents. I have had many different job experiences, but teaching ESL has been the most fulfilling. I think teaching ESL online would suit my schedule as well as my personality, especially since I still want to teach Korean students (children and adults). I really hope I get the opportunity to teach ESL online and to continue to do what I love while feeling fulfilled at the same time.
