I am an avid musician and traveler with vast, cultural knowledge. I hold a B.A from Ashford University (2016) and a TESOL-Certificate from UNI-Prep (2018), Being married to a native Brazilian has given me first-hand experience with ELL challenges to the English language. I have been employed with Teachers on Reserve since August 2016, so I have experience in an academic, classroom setting. As a teacher, my philosophy includes meeting all ELLs halfway - similar to immersive teaching methods - so I will always strive to learn at least 10-15 words in their L1. I actually used this method with my wife, and I now speak conversational Portuguese. I also have strong Spanish-speaking skills. I am also a strong advocate of TPR and the Rassias method of communicating with the body and physical gestures. I understand the needs and differences between child, juvenile and adult learners. My approach always includes humor and wit, as I believe that learning must always be pleasant and enjoyable for all ages.
