My name is Taylor Massey. I
am originally from Austin, Texas; but I am currently working as an architect in
Seattle, Washington. My work at LMN Architects and my passion for teaching has
led me to serve as mentor for the ACE (Architecture, Construction, and
Engineering) mentorship program for the past three years. Guiding high school
students through the complexities of the design and construction industry has
encouraged me to expand my teaching to other areas.
The most natural area of
teaching for me to pursue was another one of my true passions: mountaineering. I
have been volunteering as a junior mountaineering instructor for the Boeing
Alpine Society. As an instructor, I have the opportunity to lecture on crucial
safety techniques in mountaineering such as belay, rappel, ice ax arrest,
glacier travel, and crevasse rescue.
Currently, I ambitiously hope to expand my teaching to my
greatest passion of all: traveling. As an architect, I believe that the world
we build is a reflection of who we are as people. As such, meeting new people,
hearing their stories, and understanding their culture is my life-long quest. Through
teaching, I hope to give back a small fraction of what I have gained from
meeting people all around the world.

Boeing Alpine Society
February 2017 to Current
During climb season, I volunteer as a junior instructor with the Boeing Alpine Society (Boealps). This mountaineering club, sponsored by Boeing, provides mountaineering and climbing education for ambitious adventurers through the Seattle area. As a junior instructor, for five months a year, I teach students crucial safety techniques for such as belaying, rappelling, ice ax arrest, glacier travel, and crevasse rescue. After classroom lectures, I guide students through practicing their skills in the alpine.
Cascadia Green Building Council's Seattle Collaborative

I currently serve as the co-chair for Cascadia Green Building Council's Seattle Collaborative. As co-chair, I lead the non-profit's effort to promote sustainable building initiatives and advocacy. I coordinate five separate subcommittees with city/county officials, real estate developers, architects, and engineers. The events organized through the subcommittees include, but are not limited to building tours, professional educational lectures, panel discussions, advocacy promotions, and networking.
ACE Mentorship Program
August 2014 to Current
For the past several years, I have served as a mentor for the ACE (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) Mentorship Program. This volunteer, after school program offers high school students and opportunity to explore careers in the design and construction industry. Through the course of the year, I have helped guide students through the intricacies of architectural design and construction as they progress through a hypothetical project. Several of my students have since moved on to architecture school at the university level.
