Good day

My name is Timothy Andrew Mayers I come from sunny South Africa and I am a born English speaker.

To begin, like to talk about my education background. I have a high school diploma, a degree in digital animation and I also have a 120 hour TESOL certificate, which I achieved an A aggregate for!

I have been speaking English my whole life; it is my first language. I am a very outgoing person; I pride myself on being conversational with students. I do my best to make the lesson as engaging as possible, not just following the course work but building on it through interacting with the students. I have a background in performing on stage that helps me to be clear and entertaining.

I have worked with task-based education in the past with adults and children, so I would fit quite effortlessly into that framework. What I like about task-based education is that it gives context for what the students are learning. No matter what kind of learning style the student has, be it auditory, visual, kinesthetic, or a mixture of all, context is integral to create understanding.

What I love about ESL teaching is that I get to meet different people from different cultures and learn about them. It is also incredibly rewarding to see the progress that students make throughout the lessons; it’s like watching a flower blossom, very beautiful to see.

I have my two years of ESL teaching experience, I have taught children and I have taught adults. When I was teaching children I was working at a training school in China, it was quite an experience and I learnt to use coursework which involved stories and games, lots of pictures and lots of games. I did that for a year and then moved into teaching adults online.

When teaching adults online I utilize similar resources, leading coursework through conversations, reading exercises and writing exercises. I thoroughly enjoy the conversational aspect of teaching adults; I enjoy getting to know them and the culture of the hail from.

I’m confident that I will be an invaluable asset as an ESL teacher and I am excited at the opportunity to begin working with you; hand in hand, virtually of course!
