My name is Vanessa. I lived and studied in Italy up to the age of 18 when I decided to study in Lyon, France and get a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Foreign Languages. At that time, I had been studying French for seven years. I believed that going to study in the country where the language is spoken would enable me to acquire new skills, broaden my mind and give me the possibility of personal and cultural enrichment. In other words, it would be a substantive experience that I would never have had should I had stayed in Italy.
For these very same reasons, I then decided to experience a one-year exchange program in Colombia, at the University of Rosario, in Bogota. Thanks to this opportunity, I learned about a different culture, a different history and a different reality. It allowed me to master the Spanish language, while having a wonderful life experience that I will never forget.
After graduating, I spent several months in the UK where I attended a few translation courses at the University of Leicester and then worked as a translator. After my British experience, I moved to Spain where I worked as a multilingual receptionist and web-content translator. I then moved to Bulgaria to start a new professional experience and worked as a multilingual Subject Matter Expert for TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals. In November 2018, I moved to Berlin, Germany and started working as a web-content translator and multilingual Account Manager for a global creative platform, 99designs. Last but not least, I've also been giving online language lessons to students and adults during these years abroad.
All these experiences, both professional and academic, were only possible because of the language skills I acquired and mastered during the past years. I would therefore like to help other people get similar skills so they can find better job and academic opportunities.
